玉溪因水得名，玉溪河即《水經(jīng)注》所記之橋水，明代文獻中已稱玉溪，取其清流如玉之意。世代以來，玉溪人因湖而生、依河而居，湖泊孕育了奮進的生命、大河澆灌了肥沃的良田，傳承了豐潤的文化，一代代玉溪兒女用奮斗鑄就了“玉汝于成、溪達四?！钡摹坝裣本瘛⑸礁呷藶榉宓摹凹t塔”精神、深邃開放的“仙湖”精神、激流勇進的“抗浪”精神。

玉溪擁有撫仙湖、星云湖和杞麓湖三大高原湖泊，其中撫仙湖是珠江源頭第一大湖，占云南省九大高原湖泊總蓄水量的68.3%，占全部國控重點湖泊I類水質(zhì)的91.4%，被列為全國8個水質(zhì)良好湖泊生態(tài)環(huán)境保護試點之一。

● 全面落實河湖長制，推行“六必看、六必聽、六必改、六提升”工作法，深入實施“高原湖泊衛(wèi)士”行動；
● 認真實施三個湖泊保護條例，扎實開展“三湖”保護治理雷霆行動，依法依規(guī)對“三湖”流域進行全方位管控，編制完善“三湖”徑流區(qū)相關規(guī)劃，22家中央省市縣屬企事業(yè)單位和16家私營企業(yè)全部退出一級保護區(qū)，一級保護區(qū)約3.2萬人已完成搬遷8274人；

● 系統(tǒng)加大防污截污治污力度，實施“一河一策”精準整治，實施“三湖”環(huán)湖截污工程，實施撫仙湖徑流區(qū)近6萬畝耕地休耕輪作和“三湖”流域綠色農(nóng)業(yè)示范工程，從源頭上管控污染；
● 創(chuàng)新提出建設深藍撫仙湖、森林撫仙湖、七彩撫仙湖，年內(nèi)啟動15.17萬畝植被恢復，啟動撫仙湖沿湖剩余2.3萬人生態(tài)移民搬遷，啟動“森林星云湖”“森林杞麓湖”建設，千方百計守住了撫仙湖Ⅰ類水質(zhì)，杞麓湖水質(zhì)由劣Ⅴ類改善為Ⅴ類，星云湖水質(zhì)不斷改善向好。

Huawei Yuxi Data Center became the first T3 data center in China to obtain dual certification. It has cultivated a number of outstanding local enterprises such as Yunnan Lanjing Technology, Huilong Energy Investment, and Rongjian Information, and introduced Internet leading enterprises such as Huawei, 360 Technology and Tencent. An ecosystem focusing on a high-tech zone intelligent manufacturing industrial park and Zhongke Shuguang Industry has been created.

2018年，玉溪實現(xiàn)信息產(chǎn)業(yè)增加值近30億元，增長52.9%。玉溪還相繼建成了全市統(tǒng)一的政務云，搭建云南省第一個實戰(zhàn)型“信息資源互聯(lián)共享平臺”，實施互聯(lián)網(wǎng)+教育、醫(yī)療、綜治等智慧應用。構建大眾創(chuàng)業(yè)、萬眾創(chuàng)新的戰(zhàn)略布局，建設玉溪雙創(chuàng)中心啟迪眾創(chuàng)園，入駐企業(yè)已達150多家，入選2019中國100家特色空間。
In 2018, Yuxi realized an Industrial Added Value by nearly 3 billion RMB (420 million USD) in the information industry, an increase of 52.9%. Yuxi has also built a unified E-Government Cloud in the city, established the first practical “information resources sharing platform” in Yunnan Province, and implemented applications such as Internet + education, medical treatment and comprehensive administration. The strategic layout of mass entrepreneurship and innovation is built. Task Space, a facility functions like an incubator, is set up with more than 150 companies nestled inside. It has been listed the Top 100 Characteristics Carriers of China 2019.
